Birthday cake and candles

This study demonstrates principles of art and design through emphasis, pattern, unity, proportion This study involved lighting a pack of birthday candles in a pattern.  The pattern I attempted to follow would often be interrupted by an alternating pattern in avoidance of burning my hands.  The emphasis is on the figure who is creating movement and rhythm with the same repeating action of lighting and relighting the same number of candles over and over again until this cannot be done any further. Scale and unity are present through the position of the candles on the cake you have a unified piece with different interesting shapes present. Scale is not distorted against reality but there is variety in the size of shape and form present.  The lighting is a nice contrast created through the illumination of the figure and the brightness of the light created when all of the candles are lit.
